Oracy in schools

Alongside my coaching work with multilingual professionals, I do a considerable amount of work with local schools on public speaking, oracy, debating, storytelling and performance reading.

I offer:

  • 1-hour afterschool clubs for groups of up to 12 students, focusing on public speaking and debating
  • Delivering core oracy skills lessons as part of schools’ PPA provisions or as standalone workshops
  • Demonstration sessions, working with classroom teachers to help them integrate oracy components into their everyday practice
  • 20 or 30-minute weekly one-on-one ‘peripatetic’ sessions with students, preparing them for competitive public speaking or LAMDA (or similar) examinations, or helping them to develop their confidence when speaking
Alongside frameworks and techniques that I have developed myself, I make use of resources from LAMDA, the English-Speaking Union and Voice 21 while leaning on existing elements of the National Curriculum, EYFS and the Government’s APPG report on oracy in schools.

I have enhanced DBS clearance, public liability insurance and I am registered with the ICO.

If you are located in north Herefordshire, south Shropshire or west Worcestershire and you think your school would be interested in integrating some additional oracy into its curriculum, please feel free to get in touch
